Captains Fishing Report

What a GREAT TRIP! It was a little bumpy and windy but we sure caught a bunch of Trout, Mackerel, a few sharks and Jacks. We hit the tide just right fishing deeper grass flats. We arrived at 8:30, within the first couple of casts it was fish on. It was a single, double up, we had some triple ups and a few times where everyone was hooked up. It was a mixed bag and constant action. It was about 11:30 and the tide started to slack and so did the fishing. Fin, the cool kid with the glasses, had the time of his life. He was slap worn out from all the fun we had on the water catching them fish up!

The bite is still going strong! We have had a lot of rain this week but still getting out on the water catching up some Trout and Snook. We have been fishing the Lower Tampa Bay, Upper Sarasota Bay and Anna Maria Island. The Speckled Trout bite has been great, we are still catching nice fish along with great numbers. Along with the Trout we have been catching some additional species which is nice for clients getting to hear their drag scream. We are light line fishing and on occasion you will hook a Shark, Tarpon, Kingfish or something that will make your drag scream! This is really the funnest fishing on the Tampa Bay. You never know what you’re going to hook into!

When the tide is right the Snook fishing also has been very good! We have had higher than normal tides over the last week. That gives these Snook more places to hide! When the tide is right these Snook will bite!

Boy it’s been HOT here in Florida but the fishing has been HOTTER! We have a great Anna Maria Island and Lower Tampa Bay Tarpon BITE! We are catching lots of Trout in the deep flats on the Tampa Bay. The Snook BITE has been banging along the Mangroves and the big breeders are starting their spawning mode on the beaches and inland passes! And we have plenty of Redfish around the flats in Sarasota Bay. If you’re here on vacation or a local just looking to get out on the water and catch some fish, you found the right spot!

I wish we could do it all in one day or week! Here’s a breakdown of this week’s fishing. I have been focusing on a deep flats trout bite catching great numbers and plenty of slot fish. With this higher water the Snook bite is a little more challenging with these morning high tides. As the sun comes up the Snook will move further under the mangroves which make it more challenging to get a get bite. Once the tide comes down it is like Donkey Kong! As for Tarpon fishing there has just been to many charters and locals out there pressuring the fish for me. I want to get my clients on the BITE!
